Anna Paul

Anna Paul obtained her bachelor's degree in political science and sociology from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, followed by an interdisciplinary master's in sustainable development from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Her research interests revolve around gender studies, postcolonialism, climate change, biodiversity conservation, and the governance of commons. For her master’s thesis, she conducted an in-depth analysis of women’s argan oil cooperatives in rural Morocco and the governance of the commons (forest and water) against the backdrop of climate change and capitalist expansion. This involved qualitative fieldwork in the southern regions of Morocco.

Since May 2025, Anna has been a research associate at the SFB, where her work explores communal wildlife conservancies in Namibia. Her research is twofold: on the one hand, it examines the property rights of local communities to determine whether they involve innovative commons approaches. On the other hand, it investigates wildlife and their habitats both as objects and subjects of property rights. Doing so, she employs a more-than-human perspective, critically engaging with anthropogenic structures.
