Promotion of Junior Researchers

Mid-level Representatives

Mid-level staff comprises doctoral scholars and postdoctoral researchers. The forum of the mid-level staff meets online once a month and supports networking among the mid-level members of the different locations of the SFB. This so-called “Mittelbau-Forum” provides a safe space to discuss issues relevant to working as mid-level staff in an organization. It also supports the organization of writing retreats and workshops to help advance the careers of mid-level staff.

The mid-level representation is a key organization within the SFB that represents the interests of mid-level staff. Its members raise important issues at SFB board meetings, at which the mid-level staff have two votes. The mid-level representation consists of four mid-level members elected for a year. The current members are Juliana Hutai, Lena MaiVarun Patil and Dirk Schuck.

Predoc support

Treppe hinauflaufen

To facilitate the transition from university studies to the doctoral phase, the SFB offers initial funding for promising Master's graduates from the institutions involved in the SFB to develop an exposé. Our predoc-scholarship, with a funding period of up to six months, is aimed at supporting doctoral projects with an emphasis on property. Funding is provided in terms of financial aid and by offering mentorship, networking possibilities, and other academic support: the scholarship amounts to a lump sum of 1,000 euros per month and permits participation in internal SFB events such as the colloquium, method-, and skills trainings. The scholarship is based at one of our two main locations, the Friedrich Schiller University Jena or the University of Erfurt.
