On May 19, we will show the movie Alps (GR 2011).
Movie series "Property in view"
About our series
Once a month during the semester, our series brings the debate on property issues to the big screen. We show a filmic treatment of conflicts over property, current dynamics of change and possible alternatives. A member of our Collaborative Research Center will give a brief introduction to the film at the beginning of the evening and shed light on the connections between the film and our property research. The film will be followed by a discussion with anyone from the audience who is interested. The films are usually shown in the original language with subtitles.
About the movie
They call themselves “Alps” and are members of a secret group centered around an emergency physician and a nurse. For a fee, they provide “replacements” for people who have recently died. To ease the grieving process for the bereaved, the “Alps” wear the deceased’s clothes and live in other people’s homes—all according to strict rules. Romantic relationships or emotional closeness with the clients are not permitted. But not all members of the “Alps” follow the rules. An early work of the new Greek cinema (“Greek Weird Wave”)—surreal in style and delicately staged.
The film will be introduced by Stefanie Graefe, Sociologist at the University of Jena in the field of Political Sociology.
