On April 14, we will show the documentary Patrol (NIC 2023).
Movie series "Property in view"
About our series
Once a month during the semester, our series brings the debate on property issues to the big screen. We show a filmic treatment of conflicts over property, current dynamics of change and possible alternatives. A member of our Collaborative Research Center will give a brief introduction to the film at the beginning of the evening and shed light on the connections between the film and our property research. The film will be followed by a discussion with anyone from the audience who is interested. The films are usually shown in the original language with subtitles.
About the movie
The documentary follows rangers Armando John and Margarito, as well as American environmentalist Christopher Jordan, who has joined them, through the Indio Maíz Reserve in Nicaragua’s rainforest. The reserve is home not only to a diverse array of flora and fauna but also to the indigenous Rama and Kriol peoples, whose ancestors came from Africa. Their habitat is threatened by illegal land grabs and illegally operated cattle ranching for the U.S. meat market. The film highlights the rangers’ work and serves as a voice for the indigenous minorities of Indio Maiz.
The film will be introduced by Anne Tittor, Sociologist at the University of Jena.
