Movie series „Property in view"

About the movie

When Robert, Volker, and Maren one day accidentally find millions of banknotes of former GDR money in an old mine shaft near Halberstadt in the summer of 1990, they decide to steal some of the money and exchange it for Deutschmarks. Together with others, they develop a clever system for exchanging the money, while at the same time experiencing profound social and economic upheavals and changes.

The film will be introduced by Sylka Scholz, Sociologist at the University of Jena in the field of qualitative methods and gender studies.

About our series

Once a month during the semester, our series brings the debate on property issues to the big screen. We show a filmic treatment of conflicts over property, current dynamics of change and possible alternatives. A member of our Collaborative Research Center will give a brief introduction to the film at the beginning of the evening and shed light on the connections between the film and our property research. The film will be followed by a discussion with anyone from the audience who is interested. The films are usually shown in the original language with subtitles.
