Prof. Dr. Christoph Breuer

Christoph Breuer has been a full professor of sports management at the German Sport University Cologne since 2004. Between 2006 and 2010 he was also a research professor at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) in the area of the Socio-Economic Panel study (SOEP). In 2009 he was a research fellow at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). He declined W3 appointments to the chair of Sociology and Economics of Sport at the TU Chemnitz in 2009 and to the chair of Sport Science III: Organisations of Sport at the University of Bayreuth in 2011.

His research focuses on the structural development of sports organisations and their impact on organisational success and public welfare. A full list of publications can be found here.

Within his association, he will contribute his expertise from the subsystem of sport on the transformation of a once purely noncommercialized sector with entirely non-profit-oriented ownership structures at the level of its formal organisations for the purpose of an intended social return to an industry with partly explicit privatisation of profits and their protection through a modification of property rights. In the joint research, special attention will be paid to the conditions for success and imitation effects in the structural change of ownership as well as to the role of emotions and trust for the dynamics or stability of organisational ownership structures.
