Research Project

How do the models of property individualism change in the history of Western European societies? In the 17th and 18th centuries, Western European states were still characterised by an agrarian economy, which also determined the ideas of the (male) free landowner. The western-liberal model of individual property ownership underwent decisive changes as a result of industrialisation in the 19th century. In the emerging consumer society, subjects saw themselves as free individuals and private owners in a different way than in the early modern period.
