Prof. Dr. Maria Backhouse

Maria Backhouse is Principal Investigator of the Junior Research Team “Ownership of genetic resources” at the Collaborative Research Centre “Structural Change of Property.” Since October 2022 she is appointed Professor for Environmental Sociology at Augsburg University. Before that she had a position as Junior Professor on “Global Inequalities and social-ecological Change” at the Institute of Sociology of Friedrich Schiller University Jena and was Director for the Junior Research Group “Bioeconomy and Inequalities. Transnational Entanglements and Interdependencies in the Bioenergy Sector” funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Her research interests include environmental sociology, political ecology, social-ecological inequalities, bioeconomy, development and postcolonial theories, Green Grabbing.
